McGraw-Hill Connect

A suite of digital resources for educators to diagnose student strengths and weaknesses

McGraw-Hill Connect is a virtual education platform that's designed to work with the McGraw-Hill series of academic textbooks. Educators can use the discussion and assessment questions that come with each of these textbooks, or they can insert their own to help further frame the debate in a classroom environment.

Enrichment activities can be added as time goes on, but most teachers will be pleased with the selection of activities that come stock with each textbook. Every question in the software was written specifically to compliment a passage in the text, meaning that students can use evidence from the reading to support their answers.

Teachers are invited to use a toolbox that features a number of pre-built activities they can deploy in a virtual classroom. Some educators might find this method of doing things a bit obtuse, especially because McGraw-Hill Connect lacks support for some of the newer textbooks that are now in use. That being said, it's a relatively easy way to add questions to an assessment and gauge whether or not students understood the assigned reading.

Feedback about any student's performance can be entered at any point in a lesson, which makes it easy for teachers to point out areas that could be improved on. Some corporate users might find this feature helpful if they're attempting to roll out a training program that's supposed to be done right at work. Managers could identify potential problems and help their crews get comfortable with the material before they ask them to apply any of their new skills in the workplace.

A majority of users won't be turning to McGraw-Hill Connect for the questions, however. Rather, they'll be more excited about the integrated digital library. This includes a large number of McGraw-Hill books that the textbook publisher has put out over the years. A majority of natural sciences and mathematics are covered in this collection, which makes it sufficiently universal for use in a wide variety of courses. While this isn't exactly an example of academic courseware per se, the textbook feature outshines almost everything else that the program has to offer.

Some educators have actually required students to use McGraw-Hill Connect, largely because it gives them such a healthy cross-section of materials to read through. Students who invest in the platform in lieu of purchasing traditional books may also take advantage of a form of online tutoring that comes with it.

This helps connect students with other educators if they feel as though they're struggling with a certain piece of the material. Considering the fact that this is far more instantaneous than actual in-person tutoring, it should prove to be another attractive option for those who are using McGraw-Hill Connect as part of their college course load.
